Fate to Imitate is a 2d Metroidvania set
within a dungeon where you play as a mimic!
Story:
You once lived on the surface living in peace with the humans until one day, a king deemed you and all your friends as evil monsters!?
Now trapped at the bottom of a dungeon because of this you must scale up to the top and face the king head on.
Discover the 2 main areas for this demo. Mimic Town the safe haven where your pals reside and The Dump, a sludgey goopy area filled with trash enemies.
My main focus for this project was to hone in on my level design skills, I wanted a area that is fair yet challenging and makes the player feel like they are exploring. I wanted to ensure areas the player could not reach before by using abilities the player has earned throughout (like the slamming ability).
What I think went well within the timeframe I had to create the project is that I managed to create a expansive area for the player to explore with different enemies and even a boss! However would I believe could be improved upo
n and what I hope to change is that there is not some QOL (Quality of Life) features that other metroidvanias have present in this game. For example I wish to implement a map system as through playtesting players after beating the boss battle may feel a little lost with what to do next.
Overall though my opinion on how the game turned out for the university version submission is I'm proud of what I managed to do and I really pushed myself to create a project I believe is filled with passion, however I do believe it could be improved and I wish to do so in the future. I will also be updating my itch.io web page with devlogs to make any improvements i feel is needed for the game so go check it out!
